S for specific.
To help, try to answer the 5 W questions:
What do I want to accomplish?
Why is this goal important?
Who is involved?
Where is it located?
Which resources or limits are involved?
M for Measurable.
You need to define a way to know if the goal is achieved.
How much?
How many?
How will I know when it is accomplished?
A for Achievable.
If you define a goal, you must have the ability to achieve it. Otherwise, it’s not a goal but a dream.
How can I accomplish this goal?
How realistic is the goal, based on other constraints, such as financial factors?
The achievability must not be in the hands of another person.
R for relevant.
The goal must be relevant to keep the motivation to achieve it.
Does this seem worthwhile?
Is this the right time?
Does this match our other efforts/needs?
Am I the right person to reach this goal?
Is it applicable in the current socio-economic environment?
T for Time-bound.
It would help if you had a target time to achieve your goal, or this is a moving goal that you will never succeed.
When?
What can I do six months from now?
What can I do six weeks from now?
What can I do today?
If you fail at the end of the time, you define a new goal considering your failure, progress, and what you can change to achieve it.
Example
Suppose you ask someone to bring you back some fruits. Is It a correct goal? No.
Which kind of fruits? Orange, Apple? Specific.
How many? One apple, ten apples? Measurable.
Does this person can access a store that sells the fruit? Did you give him money to buy? Achievable.
If you ask peach in the middle of the winter? Is this relevant?
Today, next week, in one month? Time-bounded.
If you have a SMART goal, you can achieve it. Then you can celebrate success.
If you want to start an online business to enter the digital world, you must define SMART goals. If you are entirely re-skills, with no technical knowledge, no writing skill, you never have done any advertising, and you still have a job. Do you think it realistic to say that you will earn money soon? All-new skills need some time to master. You make some mistake, you learn. You progress, and when you start to understand, you earn money. It’s why it’s essential to start this journey in addition to your current job. You start with less time, but you don’t have the stress to earn money quickly.
